Hi, first of all, I want to say that I’m a Premium user and I absolutely love the app. It’s by far one of the most useful navigation tools available on Garmin, and I really appreciate the work you’ve put into it.
I want to raise an issue I’m experiencing on the Garmin Forerunner 570. During activities, the touch lock (screen lock) cannot be disabled when using Mappily. Unlike the native Garmin activities, there are no settings within the app to control or override this behavior. This makes it quite difficult to interact with the map while navigating, especially when you need to quickly pan or zoom.
It would be great if there were a way for Mappily to better handle or bypass the touch lock behavior, or if there is perhaps a workaround that I may have missed.
Additionally, I’ve noticed that the app sometimes crashes when trying to adjust data fields. This doesn’t happen every time, but often enough to be a bit disruptive.
Hopefully this feedback helps — and thanks again for building such a great app!
Best regards,
Paul
Hi,
We’ll have to have a look into this. Are you able to enable the touch lock and if so, how? How does disabling it normally work on this watch?
I don’t have access to a copy of this watch to try and touch-lock isnt part of the device simulator, so any information you can shar would be apprciated.
Regarding crashing, do you know under what circumstances this happens. You are the only one to report this, so it must be an edge case that I need to narrow down. If you can reliably recreate it, that would be ideal and then i can test that exact situation.

Hi David,
Thanks for your quick response, really appreciate it!
Regarding the touch lock: yes, I’m able to unlock it during an activity by swiping down on the lock icon at the top of the screen. That works fine, but having to repeatedly unlock it during a run does become quite frustrating.
On the native Garmin running activity, there is a setting called “Lock Screen” that you can enable or disable within the activity settings itself. Unfortunately, this isn’t something you can configure globally for all activities. That’s why it would be really helpful if something similar could be controlled within Mappily itself, if possible.
As for the crashing issue, I’ve been able to reproduce it quite consistently:
- Go to Data Fields in Mappily
- Open for example “Data Page 1”
- Select a field (e.g. Field 3)
- Then scroll up and down through the available options for a while
After some scrolling, the app crashes and shows the IQ logo with a yellow exclamation mark.
It might be worth noting that this could be related to the Forerunner 570 being a relatively new device with newer firmware. I did not experience these issues on my previous Forerunner 265.
Hope this helps you narrow it down. Let me know if you need any more info!
Best regards,
Hi David,
Just a quick update from my side: I’ve managed to resolve the touch lock issue.
It turns out that on the Forerunner 570 you can create an activity focus mode under “Focus Modes” and disable the screen lock there. I’m now activating this focus mode when using Mappily, and that works well.
The only remaining issue is the occasional crash when adjusting data fields. That’s still happening, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me.
Just wanted to let you know in case it’s helpful.
Thanks again for your support!
Thanks for letting me know. We’re investigating the crashing issue and will fix it asap.

Hey there,
Firstly - thankyou for making this app possible
I was really hesitant to get a Forerunner 570 myself, as I really wanted integrated maps for hikes and bike rides in unknown areas, breadcrumbs can only take you so far but you have made this possible for people who may not be able to afford the higher end 970 and more so in my case (and many other’s i’m sure) don’t want to go bigger then 42 mm watch as we have really small wrists!
My one gripe is that I have really been struggling with the zoom in/zoom out function on the Forerunner 570, it really doesn’t seem to register the down and up swipes very well at all, and I’ve noticed in the middle button menu there is no pan/zoom function - it would be really helpful if we could potentially add this functionality where you can just set the distance from the buttons itself aswell as movement. Not sure what it is with the new watches, but it takes me over 20 trys before I can get it to zoom out (if not more).
Would you have any advice?
Thanks in advance!
Hi - This is odd. I presume the 570 is a touchscreen watch and you’d expect to swipe up and down to zoom in and out? The app has either menu/touch to zoom depending on the type of watch. We should probably try to work out why it won’t swipe correctly. Can you elaborate on exactly how it doesn’t work? Does swiping work elsewhere on the watch?
From my experience so far, swiping works with all other applications and general UI movements, but it really struggles with mappily in comparison. I watched your youtube video to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong when it came to the zoom in/out but doing the exact same gestures (and trying with different pressures) I still can’t get it to be consistent.
Ok- let me take a look at what might be happening. Worst case we might be able to add the menus on this watch
